Brittney Griner is set to be the latest recipient of the lucrative seven-figure contract in the ongoing WNBA free agency, much to the credit of the latest CBA agreement.

According to an anonymous report on Friday night, the 35-year-old is reportedly signing with the Connecticut Sun after taking a back seat and being a reserve with the Atlanta Dream.

The terms of the agreement are unknown. The news of the deal was first reported by Sun sideline reporter Terrika Foster-Brasby, confirmed by ESPN's Alexa Philippou.

Griner is a six-time All-WNBA and seven-time All-Defensive Team selection, a two-time Defensive Player of the Year, an eight-time blocks leader, and a two-time scoring champion.

She had spent her entire career with the Phoenix Mercury before joining the Dream last year. Phoenix drafted her No. 1 in 2013, and she helped them win a championship the following year.

But Griner's new era with the Dream did not go as planned. She posted career lows in minutes (20.8), points (9.8), rebounds (5.2), and blocks (1.2). By the end of the season, she was coming off the bench after suffering an injury halfway through.

Griner also found success on the international stage. While on national duty, Griner won three Olympic gold medals with USA Basketball.

The Sun will be Griner’s third team in three years. She hopes to have a better season there than the one she had with the Dream in 2025.

But the fact that she is expected to sign a deal worth upwards of $1 million indicates the value she still holds at this point in her career.

The 35-year-old's decision to join Connecticut could also be factored in by the Sun's relocation to Houston in 2027.

Brittney Griner Faces Career Full Circle Moment

The Fertitta family, led by Houston Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta, reached a deal to purchase the Connecticut Sun for $300 million, according to ESPN’s Alexa Philippou last month.

As a result, the franchise will relocate to Houston. The change will take effect in time for the 2027 campaign, following one last run in Connecticut this summer.

Brittney Griner is a Houston native herself who attended Nimitz High School. She gained national attention there for her dunking ability.

While full details of her contract are not revealed yet, Griner could very well be spending the twilight years of her career in her hometown should she stay with the Sun after this year.
