WNBA Reveals Rare PGA Tour Connection Tied to a League Pioneer

Jan 27, 2026, 11:29 PM CUT

Could you imagine a perfect swing and a three-pointer coming from the same family? Well, on January 25, the WNBA's Instagram post revealed the youngest PGA golfer, Blades Brown's WNBA ties.

Brown, an 18-year-old from Nashville, is the youngest player to shoot 60 in the PGA Tour's history. He recently tied World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler and is the son of WNBA Missouri Sports Hall of Famer Rhonda Blades Brown.

Rhonda Blades Brown was the first player in the WNBA to make a three-pointer. She was also the first pick in the WNBA expansion draft after playing for the Vanderbilt Commodores in college.

Her W career summed up in 4 seasons, as she played for the New York Liberty in 1997 and the Detroit Shock in 1998. Rhonda leaned into coaching afterwards. However, she made sure to lay the foundation for her son's athleticism. Now Brown carries the legacy on the golf course.

It is exactly how Rhonda summed up after Brown's performance in Myrtle Beach, 2024. "The way I was able to block out stadiums of thousands of people and focus on my game, he reminds me of that", she said.

However, this is not the only such connection the league has witnessed.

Sheryl Swoopes and Jordan Jackson

The four-time WNBA champion, three-time MVP, six-time All-Star, and first WNBA player to record a triple-double, Sheryl Swoopes, was the first player to sign with the league.

Now, her son Jordan Jackson is playing in the NBA G League for the Maine Celtics. He has already made a name for himself outside of his mother's feats. In 2024, Jackson took home the NBA G League Dunk Contest title.

He didn't forget to give a nod to Swoopes' legacy and wore her Comets 22 during the full-court slam.

From one generation to the next or one sport to another, one thing remains clear. Sometimes, success just runs in the DNA.
