There’s a reason Lisa Leslie is counted among the game’s greats. She never misses an opportunity to learn, and her role as a commentator at Unrivaled is no different.
This time, her lesson came from Marina Mabrey, a player often known for her fiery temper, who prompted Leslie to drop a scathing comment on air.
"I feel like I had a crashout on air when Brittney Griner did a flagrant foul on Aliyah Boston so I was like I gotta hold myself accountable too."
Leslie drew inspiration from Marina Mabrey. She had come up with a container labeled “Marina’s Bigger Crash-Out Jar.” And every time she lost her cool, she put money into the jar as a form of accountability. This time, it was Leslie putting the money
It came during a moment from the January 24th Phantom vs. Vinyl matchup, Brittney Griner committed a flagrant foul on Aliyah Boston. That moment prompted Leslie to make a controversial comment on the broadcast.
“Listen, I think that was extra and I think it’s excessive,” she said. “If that was my face, I probably would have punched her. But don’t ask me—y’all brought me here. I’ll tell you the truth. It’s a foul because that follow-through is not your normal follow-through. It’s one thing to try to block my shot at the top, but it’s another thing to scrape across my face.”
And amidst Lisa Leslie contribution, Mabrey has a new and improved crash out jar.
The Lunar Owls Admin Had a Cheeky Surprise For Marina Mabrey
In a video from the Lunar Owls admin, they presented Mabrey with a bigger crash out jar. It was a joke that Mabrey had a lot of fun with.
"Now we can fit it all. 'Marina's Bigger Crash-Out Jar'. Now I have room to act up. I didn't think it was all going to fit in my other jar. I was supposed to be stopping crashing-out. You guys are basically saying feel free, we have a bigger jar."
After incidents with Caitlin Clark in the WNBA and Sug Sutton, Mabrey is bringing her technical foul issue under close control with her crash-out jar. And Lisa Leslie's accountability is just an additional bit of support in Mabrey's step-by-step process of being cautious.
