WNBA Issues Official Statement After Historic 7-Year CBA with Major Pay Raises

The WNBA officially signed its most transformational labor agreement. This historic seven-year deal introduces million-dollar player salaries and a massive increase to the league salary cap.

The CBA deal was being negotiated for more than 17 months, with both parties finally agreeing and signing on the dotted line. The CBA document will serve as the full adoption of the agreement.

"The Women’s National Basketball Association and the Women’s National Basketball Players Association announced today that the final long-form version of the new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) has been completed and signed," a post from WNBA on X stated.

"Formally cementing the most transformational labor agreement in women’s professional sports. The terms of the new CBA were previously ratified by WNBA Players on March 23, 2026," the post further said, "and the WNBA Board of Governors on March 24, 2026."

This agreement revolutionizes player treatment and serves as a major milestone for women's professional sports. Additionally, the CBA has been signed with an option to opt out after the 2031 season.

Now the question arises: what makes this agreement such an intricate deal that WNBA players will benefit from it?

WNBA And WNBPA Sign The Most Important Agreement In Women's Sports History

The WNBA and WNBPA have both termed this new CBA deal as "transformational." This groundbreaking CBA deal marks a historic moment in women's professional sports, as it introduces the first comprehensive revenue-sharing model.

This achievement not only sets a new standard but also paves the way for a more equitable future in the league. The deal includes WNBA's first $1 million salaries.

Further, the new salary cap is up from $1.5 million in 2025 to $7 million per team this year. The salary will grow annually as well, with the league's growing revenue.

Not only that, players have been guaranteed housing for the first three years of this deal. Also, there's an expanded benefits package.

Furthermore, there will also be a one-time bonus for players who retire. The last CBA was agreed in January 2020, which included "Premium Economy class status" for traveling as a perk.

The previous CBA had limited protections for mothers, which will change in the new one. However, none of this would be possible had the union not collectively pushed the "Pay the Players" campaign back in 2025 and stood their ground even during the historic 100-hour marathon negotiations.
