With the WNBA draft being a couple of hours away, there’s still some room for speculation and prediction. And Trysta Krick logged in at the right moment.
The four reigning 1st pick contenders of this year are set to give the Dallas Wings a hard time on April 13. But before that, WNBA analyst Trysta Krick made her case as to why Lauren Betts shines the brightest.
“I'm going to have the Dallas Wings take Lauren Betts, the number one overall pick”, said Krick on the recent episode of Alley Oop. “Truthfully, culturally, her and Paige are two bright, warm lights that will cause a culture of love and togetherness in Dallas.”
According to Krick, the 6’7 UCLA Center has “good footwork, the ability to chase you down and block your shot and get the rebound.” She “runs the floor really well, has a nice little mid-range shot”, and is “a great rim protector.”
So, combining Betts’ towering size and rim protection with Bueckers’ elite playmaking and efficiency, per Krick, will bring forth the best of the Wings. Moreover, Betts is just returning from a championship run.
These factors might make her a standout to the Wings, who have already pretty much arranged their roster. However, there are some disadvantages on Betts’ end.
Lauren Betts’ On-court Struggles
Despite averaging 17.1 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 3.2 assists this season, Betts’ struggle with 3P shooting, footwork, and floor pacing had been prominent. And the UCLA star is aware of that.
“It’s about continuing to work on my skills there, preparing my one-on-one game", Betts said. "Trying to spread the floor a little bit more if I can, and continuing to grow in all aspects."
The modern-day fast-paced WNBA leans towards versatile, motion-oriented players. Say, for example, Bueckers is renowned for her pass-first style and elite court vision. She can score efficiently from mid-range, the rim, and three-point range.
So, to be able to match PB on the floor, Betts would first need some rework done.
With that being said, do you think she’s a good match for the Dallas Wings? Comment it down.
