What Did Stephen Curry Say About Azzi Fudd’s No. 1 Selection?

Stephen Curry, the Golden State Warriors’ star, reacts to Azzi Fudd’s growth as the league’s top-tier player. Curry supported the UConn guard for the 2026 WNBA draft, congratulating her on being selected No.1 overall by the Dallas Wings.

Curry said, ”The energy around the WNBA Draft this year was unmatched, and seeing Azzi Fudd go No. 1 overall to the Dallas Wings was a special moment for the whole crew. It’s been a true full-circle journey watching her. From her days as a standout at Curry Camp to seeing her dominate at UConn and lead them to that 2025 National Championship was just the beginning."

"The league is getting a world-class person, and we couldn’t be prouder to see a member of the ‘Curryverse’ taking that next leap to the pro stage. Let’s give her her flowers- she’s earned every bit of this,” Curry added.

Curry and Fudd have a long history, as she attended his elite camp in 2018 and was the first to sign with the organization.

Azzi Fudd was selected first overall in the 2026 WNBA Draft at The Shed at Hudson Yards in New York City.

She became the seventh UConn player to be the first overall pick, joining Sue Bird, Diana Taurasi, Tina Charles, Maya Moore, Breanna Stewart, and Paige Bueckers.

Her career-best final season in Storrs proved the decision right. Fudd, a fifth-year Husky, averaged 17.3 points per game while shooting 48.1 percent from the field and 44.7 percent from three.

Azzi Fudd was the first athlete to join Curry’s SC30 brand. She fought injuries in her college career, but came back stronger.

Now that Fudd has shown she can play at the highest level in college, we will see how quickly she can adapt to the pro game.

Azzi Fudd Takes Center Stage in Dallas Wings Debut

The Dallas Wings are expecting her to contribute right away. The Indiana Fever and Caitlin Clark crushed the New York Liberty 109-91 in their preseason opener on April 25 at Barclays Center, and now they're ready for another test.

Today’s the big showdown when the Fever and Wings meet for the second of three preseason contests at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

This isn’t your typical exhibition game; it’s an opportunity for Clark and her teammates to sharpen their edge before the regular season starts. Dallas struggled last season with a 10-34 record, but now things look different.

The Wings totally overhauled their roster. Veteran Arike Ogunbowale recently secured a two-year extension, creating a dynamic backcourt with Paige Bueckers and Azzi Fudd. This trio could change the trajectory for Dallas.

With the WNBA’s best perimeter shooter now on the roster, the Wings have legitimate playoff aspirations for the league’s 30th season. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
