The WNBA rivalry between Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese is turning into a partnership as they step up for Team USA. The duo connected for a key buzzer-beater against Spain.
As Team USA fought to keep its 5-0 record intact against Spain, Clark and Reese worked together to help USA get the 84-70 win.
The TNT Sports U.S. clip on X showed Reese taking space near the basket, setting herself up perfectly for the play.
As soon as she reached her spot, Clark delivered a precise pass, and Reese finished, giving Team USA a 21–16 lead at the end of the quarter.
Right after the basket, Clark walked over to Reese, and the two shared a quick high five, highlighting their growing connection on the court.
The win against Spain was thier final game of the qualifying tournament. Clark finished with 7 points and 7 assists in 22:29 of play, while Reese had 4 points and 0 assists in 18 minutes.
Fans believe this was a good sign. Earlier in the tournament, a clip from USA's 91-48 win against Puerto Rico showed Clark apparently refusing to high-five Reese.
Caitlin Clark Finds Groove With Old Foe During FIBA Wins
Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese grabbed attention against Senegal when Clark stepped in to defend Reese after a disputed call.
The moment came in the fourth quarter, when Reese went up for a layup, got blocked, and the possession was awarded to Senegal’s Khadija Faye.
Reese immediately argued with the referee, saying she was tipped and fouled, and Caitlin Clark quickly backed her up, showing clear support.
Interestingly, the growing connection between these players is reminiscent of Magic Johnson and Larry Bird, who went from fierce rivals to teammates on the 1992 Dream Team, leading Team USA to Olympic gold with incredible chemistry.
Regardless, Caitlin Clark powered Team USA to a 93–59 win over Italy with 12 points, 5 assists, 5 steals, while Reese added 5 points and 7 rebounds.
