Vanderbilt Icon Mikayla Blakes Chooses to Revel in Victory After Historic Scoring Burst

The Vanderbilt Commodores are rewriting history this season, and amidst that, Mikayla Blakes is shining the brightest with her new feat.
The 20-year-old Guard led the Commodores to an 85-60 victory over the no. 9 Alabama Crimson Tide on February 27. And she came down with a staggering 35 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 assists in a 37-minute playtime.
This marks her fifth consecutive 30-point game against a ranked opponent in the 2025-26 NCAA season. She has now brushed past the elite domain of WNBA star Caitlin Clark, who had a 4-game stretch of 30-point performances against Top 25 teams during her Iowa days.

Blakes’ 30-point streak started on February 1 against the Florida Gators, who currently hold the 13th place in the NCAAW league. She continued it with a 37 against Kentucky, 34 against Oklahoma, 34 against Texas (2nd), and lastly the 35 against Alabama.
For the season, Blakes is averaging 26.9 points, 4.6 assists, and 3.8 rebounds. And Commodores stand on 26-3 overall and in 3rd SEC position. With the postseason just around the corner, Blakes’ offensive play is an X factor for the team. And she’s focused on that.
Mikayla Blakes Is Focused on Team Wins Rather Than Individual Stats
The Commodore 1 has admitted in a post-game interview that the magnitude of these individual feats hasn’t settled down. Because there’s still work to be done and the team’s success remains the Commodores’ priority.
“I would say I do soak it in a little bit when I see it… I wouldn't know until I got home, and probably somebody texted it to me. But yeah, I enjoy it”, she said. “I'm trying to stay in the moment… So being able to acknowledge those types of things is exciting, but there's still more work to be done”.
And Coach Shea Ralph has voiced the same sentiment. Highlighting that Blakes’ lack of awareness of her individual records ultimately is due to her prioritising the team’s success.
“The only thing that she cares about is winning. So, if she has to score 50 for us to win, she will. If it's three and we win, she's fine”, Ralph added. “So that's why she has no idea. But if we don't win, then you're going to see a different side of her”.
Moving forward, the Commodores will face the no.6 Tennessee Lady Vols on March 2. Do you think Blakes will be able to keep up her streak?
