The UCLA Bruins just blew up all the barriers, and no one could take down Lauren Betts. But when it came to humour, Bruins’ fans kept the competition high.
UCLA just pushed their way into the Final 4 with a solid 70-58 win over the Duke Blue Devils. The team’s 35-1 record and game-high stats could’ve been enough rewards for Betts, until her team decided otherwise.
“I'm just so proud of this team, our perseverance, mental toughness”, the Bruins’ Center was talking of her in-game composure. But the team had to give her a confetti shower as she spoke, to which Betts could only say, “I'm sweaty.”
She finished her sentence and gave a real-time example of her composure, though. The celebration was a must after her 23-point and 10-rebound game. But once that sweat remark escaped Betts’ mouth, the fans weren’t going to let that go.
Bruins Fans Flooded X Comments
Duke led the 1st quarter by 21-17, and the 2nd by 18-14. That could have been fatal for the Bruins, but they went “into that locker room at halftime” and “were going to come out with defensive stops.” And hearing a funny remark after such a tough comeback, fans couldn’t stop swooning.
“That would be uncomfortable”, said a fan, joking that confetti over sweat is a no-go. Another added, “Confetti and sweat: the unofficial scent of a Final Four run.” “I’m sweaty” and still smiling. That’s what winning feels like”, wrote another.
Some highlighted just how iconic that remark sounds after putting up a game like that. While some fans mentioned how magnetic the locker room energy is, to be celebrating a win the way they did.
"I'm sweaty" after dropping 23 and 10 to send UCLA to the Final Four is the most iconic post-game interview energy. Lauren Betts, we love you”, wrote one. While another added, “That’s the kind of locker room energy that shows a team is locked in and genuinely enjoying the run.”
Meanwhile, fans also took it as an inevitable matter. For the season, Betts averaged 17.1 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 3.2 assists. So, the Bruins’ fans weren’t really shocked by her performance. It was just bound to happen.
“Lauren Betts has been dominant all season, and seeing the whole squad celebrate like this feels genuine. Sweaty wins only, as they say. Nice to see the joy after a big victory”, one wrote. Another added, “Best player in the country two years in a row.”
The Bruins’ fans partly saw it coming, partly were applauding Betts’ humour and the locker room energy with all those “sweat” jokes, but all while showering massive love to the team’s win.
