Imagine having a hunch that doesn’t just land but doubles up. That’s what happened with Kateryna Kotsar in her 2026 Winter Olympics run in Milan.
On Valentine’s Day, the Ukrainian star won a ticket to the big air competition and a marriage proposal from her boyfriend, Bohdan Fashtryha.
Kotsar’s big air qualification was dramatic, marked by a hard crash during her third run. But her two solid jumps snagged her into the list of 12, ranking 11th herself. And after the win, a marriage proposal from the Ukrainian armed officer Fashtryha, lit up her night even more.
When the officer sat on his knees beside the Alpine slope to ask her out. Kotsar said yes to the nervous fiancé, but she herself did not know how to “process” it.
“I think he was nervous. It was so cute to be honest”, she said after reaching the finals. “I still can't process either one or the other (events)… I still am excited and can't understand what happened tonight because it's two really huge things for me.”
And with this feat, Kotsar became the first ever Ukrainian to reach the big air final at the Olympic Games. However, the 25-year-old admitted to having some “terrible” days beforehand.
Kateryna Kotsar Opened Up About Some Other Things
In an interview with "Suspilne Sport,” Kotsar addressed some of the other things in her life for the past few days. Talking about her emotional well-being, Kotsar admitted that she has not been doing well for some days. But she had the feeling that something good was coming.
“Honestly, I've been feeling terrible for the last couple of days, and I was very happy to wake up feeling energized to perform. I thought that the biggest victory would be just to perform, to perform well. It seems I succeeded”, she said.
Next, she talked about her worry related to the snow. The constant snow would have been troublesome for players, but the condition improved gradually before the competition. “The snow conditions are superb, and the jump itself is great — everything is great”, she added.
So, Valentine’s Day will be marked for two wins in Kotsar’s calendar from now on, one on the slope, for her country and the other beside it, more personal. Moving forward, Kotsar will be competing in the finals on February 16.
