UFC Legend Ronda Rousey Makes MMA Return Against Shocking Opponent

Feb 17, 2026, 7:12 PM CUT

Ronda Rousey is officially returning to MMA. The UFC Hall of Famer will headline a new event on Netflix, ending an eight-year retirement. Her opponent is another pioneer of the sport, making a shocking return of her own.

The former UFC Champion with a 12-2, 9 submissions, 3 KOs record, returns to fight for the first time since 2016, having retired after years of concussions. But she's not the only one making a comeback to the sport.

Her rival, Gina Carano, is coming back after a 17-year hiatus after staying from the sport for Hollywood commitments. That's why when Rousey spoke about the event, she did so with a lot of excitement.

“Been waiting so long to announce this,” Rousey said to Netflix. “Me and Gina Carano are gonna throw down in the biggest super fight in women’s combat sport history…This is for all MMA fans past, present, and future.”

The 39-year-old has shaped the Women’s MMA during her run from 2011 to 2016. She has been an Olympic medalist in judo, along with a record-breaking UFC career, and a dominating WWE run till 2023.

That's why it made sense to go against a name that is as significant in the sport as Carano. With a 7-1, 1 submission, 3 KOs MMA record, she transitioned from combat sports to entertainment. Carano also made headlines in 2009 for being in the first major MMA main event, which featured two women.

Gina Carano’s Take on the Showdown and Ronda Rousey

“Ronda came to me and said there is only one person she would make a comeback for, and it’s been her dream to make this fight happen between us”, she said.

The two will fight at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California, headlining the first event promoted by Jake Paul's Most Valuable Promotions.

“This is an honor. I believe I will walk out of this fight with the win, and I anticipate it will not come easy, which I welcome. This is as much for Ronda and I as it is for the fans and mixed martial arts community. What a time to be alive.”

Both stars are heading towards this showdown while holding sincere appreciation, admiration, and respect for each other. Only time will tell what scenario we’ll get to see in the cage.
