“Trade Her”: Fans React As WNBA Warns Indiana Fever Over Caitlin Clark Injury Reporting

On Wednesday, the Indiana Fever secured a 90-73 win over the Portland Fire. However, Caitlin Clark did not play in the game after being ruled out at the last minute because of a back injury, leading to action from the league.

As the Indiana Fever failed to provide an injury update by Tuesday at 5 p.m. local time, the team received a warning. However, no official punishment was handed down. Indiana Fever beat reporter Chloe Peterson reported on the matter on X.

"NEW: The Indiana Fever have received a warning for failure to report Caitlin Clark’s injury status leading up to Wednesday’s game, league sources tell me,"

Several fans were not happy with the news, as the injury update came very late.

Indiana Fever only changed Clark’s status from available to out at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, shortly after announcing it on social media at 5:20 p.m. That was only about 100 minutes before tipoff.

Because of the late update, the league reportedly believed the Fever should have listed Clark on earlier injury reports, even with a less serious designation, as they learned more about her back issue before the game.

However, by that point, the damage had already been done.

Many fans were left frustrated with how the team handled Clark’s injury situation.

Caitlin Clark Absence Sparks Backlash Against Fever

Even though no fines were handed to the Indiana Fever, there were signs that something was wrong with Caitlin Clark before the game.

HC Stephanie White admitted Clark did not practice on Tuesday and instead spent the day getting treatment. However, that information was never included on the official injury report, prompting one fan to blame the HC.

"All because of SW [Stephanie White] and her suspension. No more lies. Trade her!!"

Many fans were also upset because they paid to watch CC play. A total of 14,010 fans attended the game. Unfortunately for those fans, Clark did not play. That led another user to ask for refunds in the comment section

"Got a warning, suspended CC and still kept all the ticket money, salute to the scammers 🫡."

Another fan believed the punishment should have been much harsher.

"A warning that should’ve been $100,000 fine."

Meanwhile, another person criticized the organization.

"Fever's management is a complete disaster."

The WNBA requires teams to list player injury statuses using labels such as probable, questionable, doubtful, or out. One user believes that this omission was an intentional move by the Fever.

"Trust, Fever knew they’d only get warned and did what they did to the fans for that reason lol."

It appears that the warning had an immediate effect. Caitlin Clark is now listed as “probable” on the injury report for Indiana’s upcoming game against the Golden State Valkyries on Friday night.

Did the Fever mishandle Caitlin Clark’s injury situation, or are fans overreacting to the late announcement? Let us know what you think in the comments.
