The SEC schedules have been rough for Texas in the past couple of games. Yet, with a positive update on Aaliyah Crump, the Longhorns can finally start hoping.
Crump was averaging 13.2 points per game for Texas before her foot injury. Unfortunately, after the injury, the Longhorns' star has been warming up the benches on the sideline, missing 15 games since November 19, 2025.
Thankfully, the Texas Guard is set to step back in the paint on January 18 for their game against Texas A&M, and the Aaliyah Crump news couldn't have come sooner.
Texas landed at fourth on the AP poll after taking a season-first 70-65 loss from the LSU Tigers. Then the Longhorns took on the Gamecocks on January 15 and lost 68-65. First LSU, then South Carolina, and things haven’t been going well for the Longhorns.
"I get them back-to-back in the same week. Now, make that make sense," Schaefer stated after the Texas-LSU match. “I'm really disappointed in the league for putting our kids in that position," he added.
So, it makes sense why getting the no.5 recruit back on the court is important for the Longhorns.
Aaliyah Crump isn’t the only one coming back
This season has been full of injuries for Texas. Guard Ashton Judd missed 12 games after a kneecap injury. And Bryanna Preston had to sit through 8 games due to an ankle sprain, too.
Schaefer couldn’t play all 12 players. It was a tight spot despite having Madison Broker and Rori Harmon on the roster. But handling the players’ conditions was more vital.
“Let's make sure we get everything handled correctly and taken care of because we certainly don't want this to be something that ends up being nagging or something we have to deal with months or years down the line”, Coach said.
But now with Judd’s and Crump’s return, will Texas be able to turn the tables finally? Comment down your thoughts on it!
