Tennessee Women's Basketball Shake-Up as Multiple Players Enter Transfer Portal

Tennessee head coach Kim Caldwell just finished her worst season as a coach with the Lady Vols, as a major overhaul is about to commence after the NCAA tournament wraps up.

Things went from bad to worse for Caldwell after losing the first-round matchup against seventh-seed NC State in the NCAA tournament, closing out the year with eight straight losses.

Now, if a 16-14 record and a first-round exit were not enough, the Lady Vols have already lost a McDonald's All-American in the transfer portal, with more expected to follow her trail.

Freshman guard Deniya Prawl was the most important signing of the Lady Vols last season. The first-ever Lady Vol from Canada was ranked sixth overall by 247Sports, and to see her leave after just one season raises a lot of eyebrows.

While this loss might turn out to be one of the biggest mistakes made by Tennessee later on, the Canadian star never really clicked in 29 appearances, where she started in seven of them. Prawl averaged just four points per game while shooting a mere 14.7% from beyond the arc.

Meanwhile, to Caldwell's credit, she did not twist her words when asked what broke the program apart this season. She took firm responsibility upon herself and her mistakes, leading back to when she decided to install a Plan B that hollowed out the team's belief.

"When you do that, you lose your identity. There’s fault from the top — and that’s from me.”

Fans are further urging change after hearing Caldwell's salary of $1 million annually. Prawl joins Kaiya Wynn as another player leaving the program this season. Wynn publicly walked away from the team after not getting playing time from Caldwell on her Senior Night. The cracks have been visible between the squad throughout this season.

But will Deniya Prawl be the last player to leave the program this season, or are there more to come?

Will Alyssa Latham be Joining Prawl in the Transfer Portal?

Tennessee will not be happy to hear that junior guard Alyssa Latham decided to enter the transfer portal after two seasons with the Lady Vols, as reported by On3 on Monday.

Latham averaged 4,7 points, 3.4 rebounds, and one steal along with 53.9% shooting from the field this season.

The transfer portal begins right after the championship game ends on April 6, and it is looking likely that coach Caldwell might be losing more of her troops till then.
