Even for the best athletes, success can bloom late. However, Taylor Townsend’s recent feat proves that

The 29-year-old's success largely came in doubles. The 2x Grand Slam doubles champion and 11 WTA doubles title holder didn’t succeed much in Singles.

However, on February 28, Townsend opened a new chapter at 250 ATX Open in Austin. Christian’s Court posted about the monumental achievement on X.

“Nearly 15 years after her pro debut, Taylor Townsend is into her FIRST tour-level singles semifinal, beating Rebeka Masarova 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 in Austin. An emotional moment for TT, who is here without a coach,” read the post.

Townsend opened the game strongly against Masarova, leading 5-2. But the 6’ 1” Swiss countered fiercely, winning five games in a row in the first set. However, Townsend’s reply was even fiercer, who kept pushing in the 2nd and 3rd sets without dropping a serve.

She fought all five break points and broke Masarova twice per set. Eventually, the victory followed in 2 hours and 20 minutes of on-court battle. Previously, the American reached two WTA singles quarterfinals in 2024 and 2025, but couldn't make it any further.

This victory marks a new chapter for Townsend, a point she emphasized while celebrating with her son Adyn.

Taylor Townsend Opened Up After the Game

Townsend then emotionally reflected on her journey. The best thing for her was that she managed to make another mark in her career, in front of her son, AJ.

“I’ve gone through a lot. I’m just really trying to find myself, my voice, my game, my way,” the star said. “I really feel so strong. I really feel like this is just the start of a new Taylor, and I’m excited. It’s a whole new chapter. It’s a new everything”.

Her journey has been full of battles, but her resilience ultimately won. "I just told myself to keep fighting," the star added. “I’m just so proud of myself. And I’m proud to be able to do that in front of AJ, to show him to never give up.”

Moving forward, Townsend will face either Ashlyn Krueger or Yuan Yue in the semifinals. Do you think she’ll make it? Comment it down.
