‘Super Excited’: Azzi Fudd Speaks on Reuniting With Paige Bueckers on Wings

While Azzi Fudd was drafted as the No.1 overall pick by the Dallas Wings, it is her relationship with teammate Paige Bueckers that has become the talk of the town in the basketball fraternity.

During an April 15 appearance on Good Morning America, host and former NY Giants star Michael Strahan asked Azzi Fudd how she feels about reuniting with Paige Bueckers in Dallas.

“Like you said, we know how to win together. We know how to play together,” Fudd stated. “So I’m super excited to get another chance to play with her and to play with all the other women on the team. I don’t know — it’s gonna be incredible. I’m so excited.” Fudd told Strahan.

Fudd and Bueckers will be playing together for the first time as professionals. The duo appeared in 49 games together in the UConn Huskies, making two Final Four appearances and a national championship in 2025.

The Wings mainly chose the 23-year-old as the top pick for her outstanding regular season in her final year under Geno Auriemma. She averaged a career-high 17.3 points per game while shooting 48.1% from the field and nearly 45% from outside the arc.

In addition, the Associated Press also named her an All-American, and she earned a spot on the All-Big East First Team.

However, the "People's Princess" struggled to carry that momentum to March Madness, as she shot just 12-39 in her final three games with UConn and could not maintain a partnership with Sarah Strong.

This led to various mock drafts choosing the likes of Spain's Awa Fam and TCU's Olivia Miles over Fudd as the top draft pick. But Fudd held her own in the eyes of most WNBA Draft prognosticators as the No.1 overall pick, following in the footsteps of Bueckers.

Fudd has also revealed the advice her partner gave to her ahead of the WNBA Draft.

"Enjoy the Moment" Paige Bueckers' Advice to Azzi Fudd Before the WNBA Draft

Fudd certainly felt nervous when WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert called her name first at The Shed at Hudson Yards on Monday night. But she held on to what her UConn senior, Bueckers, advised her and later revealed to PEOPLE how the Wings star encouraged her before the announcement.

"I feel like the advice has mostly been a combination of, one, soak this whole weekend in. You know, it only happens once, it's your moment, so really take it all in," Fudd shared.

Fudd also quoted 'Buckets,' saying, "Try to take notes, try to learn, try to just enjoy the moment, and then going forward, you know, be confident, stay true to yourself, do what got you drafted, and also enjoy that moment as well."

The two have clicked from the moment they met, and fans would surely love to see that transition to the WNBA court. Bueckers and Fudd have the potential to form one of the most aggressive backcourts the WNBA has ever seen.

Their campaign starts against none other than Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever on May 8, the opening night of the 2026 WNBA season.

So, do you think Bueckers and Fudd's duo will do enough to take the Wings over Clark and the Fever in their 2026 season opener?
