Sunisa Lee Explains why She Avoids Shared Gym Foam Pits During Training

Just as meticulous Suni Lee was on the uneven bars, she takes that up a notch further when it comes to cleanliness in the gym. And she is pretty particular about her foam pitts.

During a Rider Die episode with Complex posted on April 23, Lee exposed the unhygienic reality of gym foam pits that all athletes share, and why she prefers to have her own pair.

“The reason I love having my own foam pit is because the one in the gym is so gross, little kids would like p** in it, throw up, and there’s like band-aids, dead skin cells, like kinda gross,” the 23-year-old said.

Gym foam pits usually consist of soft cubes that athletes land on while practicing new routines or perfecting difficult skills.

The vault, uneven bars, and the floor are a few events where foam pit training plays a huge role, especially when a gymnast is on the road to recovery from injury.

“Sometimes when I get tired, I like to come and sit in my foam pit, maybe take a nap, chill, throw the blocks around, throw them at people,” Lee added, expressing a more laid-back version of her gym sessions.

While Lee trains with different sets of foam pits than others, she also makes that exclusivity worth it when the time comes to show the world her skills.

Lee made history as the first Asian American woman to win the gold medal in the women's all-around event. She also won a bronze medal on the uneven bars and a silver medal in the team event.

The 23-year-old has also fared excellently with the Auburn Tigers, becoming the NCAA beam champion and SEC uneven bars champion.

But apart from what disgusts her, Lee also talked about things she cannot live without during her interview with Complex.

Suni Lee Reveals Her "Favourite Thing in the World"

The tone of the interview was light-hearted, and Lee, an Olympic champion, kept it that way after revealing her favourite things for her "greenroom essentials."

Lee stated chicken noodle soup to be her "favourite thing in the world", alongside two cases of Diet Coke, and a Chalk Dust-scented candle that smells just like “home.”

The interview was well received by Lee’s fans, who were able to see her from a different lens rather than as a star-studded Olympic gold champion.

So, while nothing gets Lee hyped like a bowl of chicken noodle soup, what would you call your "favourite thing in the world?"
