Before the Connecticut Sun officially wraps up its WNBA time and relocates to Houston, coach Rachid Meziane expressed what he's focused on delivering to the fans.

As of May 11, The Sun is currently standing at a 0-2 regular season record. But even after a blowout 106-75 season-opener loss to the New York Liberty or an 89-82 defeat to the Seattle Storm, Meziane stood firm.

“We wanted to win this game because we know that we have the last chapter of this story, and we know that this story started a long time ago,” Meziane said. “We wanted to start this last chapter with a win, and we also want to finish this chapter.”

After 23 seasons in Uncasville, the coach agreed that they “never know how (the team is) going to land” in the future. So, the key is to make the stay worthwhile and “to give everything to (their) fanbase.”

The Tulsa Shock was the last team to finish with a solid 18-16 in 2015, before moving to Dallas. Although the Sun's future is still uncertain, the coach and the team “want to give the best memories to (the) fanbase and to Connecticut”, nonetheless.

Following the consecutive losses that equally disappointed the team and the fans, the coach had a particular plea.

Rachid Meziane “Hoped” for One Particular Thing

Playing the last season with a young team, amidst a “rebuilding process”, Meziane knew the challenges. But moving past that, he hoped that the fans realized one thing about their favorite team.

“The goal is different when you have a young team, when you are in a rebuilding process,” Meziane said. I have a group that has a desire to play hard and play together. So, I hope that our fans can recognize that we are not cheating on the floor.”

“We are trying to give our best,” he added further. “But we know that it’s part of the business that the outcome is still important, win or lose.”
