Sophie Cunningham Sparks Speculations Around Her Indiana Fever Return

After an MCL tear cut her season short, recent comments fueled speculation about a return. However, her off-season plans might point in a different direction.
On the Show Me Something podcast on December 22, 2025, Cunningham invited Meredith Marks from Real Housewives of Salt Lake City. However, when Marks revealed how a Las Vegas Aces game made her fall in love with the WNBA, Cunningham's remark caught fans' attention.
She said, "We need to get you to a Fever game. Because they're just like, so different, and so much more fun compared to all these other games.”
Fans took her enthusiasm as a signal for a probable return to Indiana. However, Sophie Cunningham dropped an even bigger hint on January 1.
The 29-year-old posed in a Fever jersey, claiming, “Let’s have ourselves THE BEST year yet in 2026, y’all.” She also wrote "POV: First time in the new jersey." in the closed caption.
After being traded from the Phoenix Mercury, Cunningham became a fan favorite Fever guard. Even her off-court rapport with Caitlin Clark was all over the headlines.
People saw the duo’s chemistry as a key component of the team’s identity. That enthusiasm intensified as Cunningham’s recent comments were interpreted as hinting at a desire to stay in Indiana, even amid free agency discussions.
But Cunningham has already set her mind to something else. And it seems like a decision that might take her away from Indiana.
What Has Sophie Cunningham Planned for 2026?
Cunningham’s $100,000, one-year contract with the Indiana Fever has already expired. She explicitly acknowledged that fact through her YouTube talk show. "If I re-sign, then I can continue to work with them,” Cunningham said. “But for now, I'm kind of doing my own thing."
And her “own thing” seems like a permanent residence in Florida. Cunningham, on her podcast, revealed that she was planning to purchase a house in Florida and move into the Sunshine State.
Cunningham’s comments and actions have kept Fever fans guessing about her future in Indiana. But for now, her focus remains on recovery and personal plans, leaving her 2026 WNBA destination unresolved.
