Sophie Cunningham Reveals WWE Invite That Could Change Her Career Trajectory

Dec 18, 2025, 12:00 PM CUT

For the 2025 season, Sophie Cunningham first female and 7th most searched athlete on Google. But it really isn't a big deal for her. That's because she’s already the talk of the town. Be it through her podcast Show Me Something, serving as Caitlin Clark’s caddie at a Pro-Am event, or simply being herself. She's done it all. Yet none could've expected her current retirement plans?

As she herself puts it better, “I grew up on that sh–t. WWE, baby,” Cunningham said during the December 17 episode of Show Me Something. “I used to be a big fan. Me and Lindsey used to wrestle all the time, and our parents would have to break it up. Kane, Hulk—oh my God. I watched Hulk all the time. John Cena was the absolute best.”

And then came the real surprise as she added, “They actually asked me to do it… Maybe after I retire or during the offseason. Maybe us two will be the new WWE duo.”

So yes, for Cunningham, the plan could eventually lead to a wrestling ring. And it’s not as far-fetched as it sounds, especially since she already has interest on the table.

It traces back to a June 17 matchup after which Sophie was labled as "enforcer". She became popular for protecting CC after Jacy Sheldon poked her in the eye. Sophie saw the moment and then grabbed Sheldon by the neck as she went for a layup to take redemption for her teammate.

This moment didn't just catch fans' attention but also landed up in the feed of the pro wrestling world. Following this instance, she was extended an open invitation by Women of Wrestling founder and co-owner David B. McLane.

He was immediately moved by her fierce loyalty, physical presence, and edge. So, analysing all traits of WWE wrestlers, he felt Soph could seamlessly transition to the squared circle.

With a black belt in taekwondo, the idea doesn’t seem so unrealistic. But still, there's a long way to go for retirement. As of now, Sophie appears to be worried about her upcoming season.

What’s Sophie Cunningham Planning for 2026?

Sophie joined Indy on a one-year contract, which has now expired. So she’s now an unrestricted free agent among 100 other players at W. Now with the new CBA still not finalized, her WNBA future remains uncertain, and so do potential offers.

However, Cunningham has expressed interest in staying in Indiana. At the same time, she’s open to exploring other opportunities. Especially one that comes with a contract big enough to finally buy a house. So the question now is: Will she get that deal?
