Sophie Cunningham Drops Off-Season Update Amidst Indiana Fever Uncertainty

Feb 21, 2026, 12:30 PM CUT

For most of the offseason, Sophie Cunningham has been on the move. She traveled to New York, Florida, and Los Angeles. But now, she’s back in grind mode.

She was recently spotted in a video putting in serious work with NBA trainer Coach P, the same trainer who has worked with Nigel Hayes-Davis and Corey Kispert.

But to add more intrigue, the video showcased Soph focused heavily on ball handling. Well, that’s a key skill, especially when you’re asked to step into point guard responsibilities.

Even more encouraging, she appears fully healthy after suffering an MCL injury late last regular season. She last played six months ago, averaging 8.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game. Now, she’s working her way back without making it dramatic.

“D***, can y’all not let a girl warm up… hahaha already bustin’ my balls,” she joked on X while reposting the workout clip. But while she looks ready with less than three months before the regular season, there’s still uncertainty about her future.

Will the Indiana Fever Keep Sophie Cunningham?

Sophie Cunningham has been a valuable piece for the Indiana Fever. Along with Sydney Colson, she stepped up as a backup option for Coach White during Caitlin Clark’s absence. And she managed decently, ranking fifth among Fever guards with a stat line of 8.6 points per game, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.2 assists.

Still, her future with the team is unclear. After a short one-year stint in Indy, Cunningham has entered free agency and is seeking a new contract. She has said she’s interested in staying in Indy, but she’s also open to other opportunities.

For the Fever, the decision may come down to the new CBA and the expansion draft. With two expansion teams entering the league, roster spots will be tight. Notably, Indy is expected to prioritize core players like Caitlin Clark, Kelsey Mitchell, Aliyah Boston, Lexie Hull, and possibly Mikayla Timpson.

If that happens, Cunningham could be squeezed out. As of now, everything hinges on the new CBA and roster strategy. Until then, her future in Indiana remains up in the air.
