‘Smart Move?’ Fans Split as Angel Reese Lands at Atlanta Dream in Massive Deal

Apr 6, 2026, 8:39 PM CUT

2026 couldn’t have gotten any crazier. First, the new CBA, and now Angel Reese’s latest move, is sending tremors of shock and bewilderment among fans.

It hasn’t been long since Rhyne Howards and Alisha Gray mentioned the red jersey with 3 letters for Reese to wear. Then came the news that had the fans on the edge, and Underdog WNBA took it to X.

“Trade summary, per @AnnieCostabile: Dream gets - Angel Reese, 2028 second-round pick swap. Sky gets - 2027 first-round pick, 2028 first-round pick”, the post said.

This season, Reese will be running the floor for the Atlanta Dream, as the Chicago Sky has just traded her for a 2027 and 2028 first-round pick. Both she and the Dream have announced it through their Instagram posts, while the fans couldn’t stop talking about it.

Fans Stood Divided After Learning About Angel Reese’s Roster Move

Last year, Reese expressed frustration with the organisation and even hinted at a roster move if nothing improved. But now that it has finally happened, fans are split in two. The first section believes that this is a bad deal on Sky’s end.

“The Sky have to be the worst ran organization ever, right? The Marina trade and now you trade arguably the second most popular WNBA player of all time that helps you sell so many tickets…. Embarrassing”, wrote one. Another added, “Is Sky’s goal to go down in flames as the worst franchise in sports ever?”

However, some fans believed that this move would work out for Chicago. They can land some of the best players from the collegiate draft, and can even have great first picks in 2027 and 2028.

“So, Sky is tanking for JuJu. Smart move by them”, wrote one. “At least the sky gets Sarah strong”, added another. One fan echoed the same sentiment, “People gonna clown on the Sky for this, but honestly, that 2027 could turn out to be pretty valuable.”

However, some fans added fuel to the fire. Previously, Angel Reese was the franchise player for the Sky, who wanted to hit it big with her. But now that they’ve let her go, the fans are digging out some old dirt.

“They told me she was the future of the league … They traded the future for a box of donuts?” wrote a fan. While someone added, “Sky fans told me they were going to get the #1 overall pick this year for her (plus more future 1sts), what happened?”

However, some fans made it clear that the Dream ultimately benefits from this. Not only do they get a great rebounder, but they also have proper support for Reese. Something that she clearly didn’t have in Sky.

“Sky got fleeced. Dream is a playoff team, so those first-rounders will be at the bottom. Dream picked up the rebound machine, and the sky remains a poverty franchise”, they wrote. Another added, “If they keep Griner and Jones to mentor Reese around that basket, omg she’s going to be a walking 15 10 & 5 player every night!”

Now, how many of the fans are actually right, time will tell. But what do you think about Reese's trade? Comment it down.
