“She Deserves 2X”: WNBA Fans React to A’Ja Wilson’s Massive $1.4m Contract After New CBA Agreement

With May nearing, the WNBA fans just let out a sigh of relief yesterday as the new CBA news came out. But while there’s some action, fans have got more to say, especially regarding A'ja Wilson's case.
After a 17-month struggle and some marathon negotiations over the past few weeks, the WNBA and WNBPA finally reached a new tentative CBA. And with that, Callie Fin of the Las Vegas Review-Journal had another news related to Wilson's post-CBA negotiation WNBA contract.
“Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wilson is expected to re-sign on the historic new WNBA supermax salary of $1.4 million as soon as possible. Sources told the Review-Journal on Wednesday," Fin disclosed on March 18 through an X update.
The 29-year-old league Veteran entered free agency in 2026. Despite being the 4X MVP and winning 3 titles with the Aces, the franchise couldn’t re-sign her with the CBA negotiations stretching on without a conclusion.
But now that it's over, the franchise seems to be on its toes to get Wilson back, even at such a staggering price. However, fans aren’t happy with one thing.
How Did Fans React to A’Ja Wilson’s Reported $1.4 Million New Contract
The contract Wilson signed in 2023, covering two years, wasn’t even among the top 25 highest in the league. For a player who holds the league-high MVP records, has been DPOY and league champion thrice, $398,422 is just not the number. And fans on X feel that even $1.4M is less.
“She deserves 2x maxes at once”, wrote one fan. As another added, “A player of her calibre deserves even more.” One more enthusiast directly tagged the Aces’ official page and wrote, “ONLY 1.4 million?? She deserves WAAAYYYY more than that!! Even 3 million is not enough but she’s worth more than that too!!”
Someone also drew a stark comparison with the NBA, highlighting how a bench player in the NBA can play short minutes and get higher pay, while the W MVP had to settle for less. He expressed happiness that the rift was somewhat narrowed with Wilson's payout.
The comment read, “She's one of the ones I'm most happy for. I know it's different markets, but you got bench players who play 8 minutes in the NBA making millions while a 4x time WNBA MVP was making 200k. Again, I know it's a way smaller market but we could bridge the gap just a little and we did. Well deserved.”
But some fans expressed disbelief as well. One key takeaway from the new CBA is that the supermax salary would include a $7 million salary cap. An average salary will be approximately $600,000, and a minimum salary exceeding $300,000. So, their paying only 1.4 to Wilson didn’t sit well with many.
“The WNBA supermax being just $1.4 million is INSANE”, wrote a fan. While another added, “Too bad that's all they can pay her and hope it comes with incentives that will make this number higher.”
But regardless, fans were generally happy that the Aces didn’t want to waste any time to snatch Wilson and add her to their roster again.
So, do you think Wilson is receiving what she deserves? Or would you say that she should be offered more, given her prowess?
