Serena Williams, ever since retiring from professional tennis, has had an active role in the golfing world.

Best known for co-owning the Los Angeles Golf Club with her sister, Venus, and husband Alexis Ohanian, Williams also made history when her team was announced as the first team to officially be a part of the TMRW Golf League (TGL).

Speaking after her team's dominant run culminated in the 2026 TGL season championship victory, Serena Williams expressed her joy to Scott Van Pelt, saying, "It's been amazing being a fan, the guys played so good. And we're just so proud of them. Happy for everyone."

The 2026 TGL Finals saw Serena Williams' Los Angeles GC go against league founder and owner/player Tiger Woods' Jupiter Links GC, winning the game 9-2.

Although Woods had to sit out this season due to back surgery, the team managed to reach the Finals in his absence. This contrasted sharply with their performance last season, where they finished at the bottom of the standings.

And despite the impending loss and competition, there was a moment of sportsmanship between Woods and Serena Williams before the match as he hugged her and acknowledged her family, reflecting the respect they've shared for years.

Held at the SoFi centre in Florida, the 2026 TGL Finals were packed with celebrities other than Williams and Woods, including the likes of Vanessa and Kai Trump, Charlie Woods, Danielle Kang, and Luke Donald.

That being said, Serena Williams' involvement in sports as an owner did not begin after her retirement, and golf is not the only sport she has invested in.

Which Other Teams Does Serena Williams Back?

While Serena Williams' involvement in the TGL reflects a broader shift toward athlete-driven business ventures, particularly in emerging sports formats, her journey dates back to August 2009, when she became a minority owner of the Miami Dolphins.

The joint venture with Venus Williams made them the first African-American to hold any amount of ownership in an NFL franchise.

Furthermore, Serena Williams co-owns the Angel City FC, an LA-based club in the National Women's Soccer League.

In one of the more recent instances, Williams has expanded into basketball and is one of the investors of the WNBA's latest team, the Toronto Temper. Set to debut next season, the Temper will be the first Canadian-based team in the league.
