Sarah Strong Joins UConn’s Most Elite Scorers with Latest Milestone

Jan 25, 2026, 4:55 AM CUT

Sarah Strong is rewriting the UConn record books. Her performance against Georgetown puts her in the company of Husky legends Breanna Stewart and Maya Moore.

In the January 22nd match-up between UConn and Georgetown, she recorded her 24th career 20-point game with 25 points, 5 assists, 8 rebounds, and 4 steals.

Per espnW, this places her among the elite players in Huskies history. Only Breanna Stewart (31) and Maya Moore (30) have had more 20-point games through their first two seasons at UConn over the past 25 years.

Strong has been impressive since arriving at UConn. In a title-winning freshman season, she averaged 16.4 points, 8.9 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game alongside Paige Bueckers.

Fast forward to her sophomore year and she's leading the Big East in both scoring (19.0 PPG) and steals (3.7 SPG), and improving her shooting to 60.2%.

And while she didn't put up 20 points in Saturday's meeting with Seton Hall, Strong was still the points leader with 17 points, shooting 7 of 14 from the field.

But This Is Not Her Only Milestone in the Last Few Games

In a tough match-up with Notre Dame, Strong crossed the 1,000 career points mark in UConn's 85-47 win, an accomplishment she achieved in just 59 games. That’s faster than most UConn legends, with only Paige Bueckers and Maya Moore reaching 1,000 points in fewer games, 55 each.

Head coach Geno Auriemma has been full of praise for Strong’s performance. “She doesn’t need a lot of shots. I would love to see if anybody has scored 1,000 points by taking fewer shots than she’s taken. She’s so efficient.”

But, even with her success, Auriemma remains focused on development. “I don’t know that I could sit here and map it out for you... So two more years of getting better. I’m anxious to see where it goes.”

Auriemma's comments suggest Strong has an even higher ceiling to reach. Do you think Sarah Strong can etch her name alongside UConn legends like Diana Taurasi and Sue Bird?
