Rhyne Howard comments on playing alongside Angel Reese

Apr 18, 2026, 1:36 PM CUT

Rhyne Howard just welcomed her new teammate with a side of friendly fire. During an Atlanta press conference on Wednesday, the Dream star joked about her history of scoring on Angel Reese.

In a video shared by The Sporting News from the Atlanta Dream’s April 17, 2026, press conference, Rhyne Howard was asked what it’s like playing against Angel Reese.

“Any time Angel's been on the other side of the court, I think I've had about 30,” Howard said, as both players laughed and smiled.

That’s not accurate. Rhyne Howard hasn’t averaged 30 points against Angel Reese, as her average against the Chicago Sky is around 18 points per game over 10 games.

You see, there have been some big games, like 22 points on June 22, 2025, and a 36-point performance with nine threes on June 13, 2025, but also quieter ones like 10 points on June 8, 2024.

So while Rhyne Howard has had strong outings against the Chicago Sky, her average is still far from 30.

The comment was clearly an exaggeration made in a lighthearted moment, especially given the criticism of the former Chicago Sky forward’s perimeter defense.

Regardless of the banter, Angel Reese is happy with her move to the Atlanta Dream.

Angel Reese Sends Clear Message After Atlanta Dream Move

"I did experience a lot of great things and enjoy being able to grow within my first two years [in Chicago]," she said, after leading the league last season with 12.6 rebounds per game and 23 double-doubles.

"But ... I love to win. I love to compete. ... I'm not satisfied with what I am as a player," Reese continued, making it clear she wants to keep improving with her new team.

The Dream got the two-time WNBA All-Star from the Chicago Sky in exchange for their first-round picks in 2027 and 2028. The Dream will also be able to trade second-round picks with the Sky in 2028.

Head coach Karl Smesko praised Reese's versatility and intends to help her reach her full potential.

"I want to hear what she thinks her strengths are and what she really wants to get better at, and I want to be a coach that helps players achieve their highest level and what they wanted to become," the 55-year-old coach added.

That said, do you think Angel Reese and Rhyne Howard can become one of the most dominant duos in the league?
