“Proud of You”: Angel Reese Sends Heartfelt Message to South Carolina Star

Apr 6, 2026, 1:29 PM CUT

Things may not have ended how Raven Johnson wanted, but Angel Reese’s recent message might just be the much-needed push.

Despite being so close to their 4th title, the South Carolina Gamecocks saw the UCLA Bruins seize the trophy with a 79-51 win. And watching Johnson play her last game, Reese couldn’t help but focus on what’s coming.

“Proud of you, my booskie”, Reese captioned her X post on April 6, resharing Johnson’s farewell message. “Your journey has been so inspiring, and you’re just getting started. See you in the W!”

Against the Bruins, Johnson managed only 3 points and 3 rebounds. Not a great way to wrap up her career, but Reese’s message is a reminder of the 5 years Johnson spent with the Gamecocks, winning 2 championships.

Despite injury setbacks and watching others transition to the big league, she stayed back, pushing for one more championship. And Reese knows her best is yet to come. Moreover, it’s not just Reese who thinks so...

Dawn Staley on Raven Johnson’s Future

Once Staley mentioned it, Johnson’s leaving would affect her the most. Beyond the stats, she brings in a speciality that no one else does. And looking back at the season, the Gamecocks’ coach knows how Johnson has won.

“We're never going to let one game define anyone," Staley said. "Raven has put our program on the top." She made a promise of not only winning just one national championship but also putting us in a position to win a lot more. We came up short, but when you look at Raven, she won at a really high clip.”

In her 5-year tenure, Johnson helped the team reach the Final 4 every single time. It’ll be hard to replace the “blood, sweat and tears” she gave to the program, and for Staley, “it's sad to see an era come to an end.”

But she also knows Johnson’s “future is bright.” Then there’ll be Reese to witness that firsthand. Do you also agree with both Staley and Reese? Comment it down.
