Paige Bueckers Responds After Opponents Called Her Team "Kids"

Jan 7, 2026, 11:00 AM CUT

The 2025 WNBA Rookie of the Year has received a tough welcome to Unrivaled. But Paige Bueckers isn't going to let the trash talk pass.

Amidst Breeze BC's 69-62 win over Phantom, Bueckers revealed trash talk coming from the opponents.

“The other team was talking trash, talking to the refs, ‘These are kids, they don’t need these calls….’ I’m like, ‘Kids?!’ No disrespect, but when the ball goes up, being able to hoop, there’s no age discrimination."

Breeze BC has a strong roster of young players. Apart from Bueckers, names like Cameron Brink, Dominique Malonga, and Rickea Jackson are all players who had their rookie seasons in 2024 or 2025.

And while some may shrug Breeze off, their young roster may be perfect for this fast 3-on-3 setup.

Even against an experienced opposition like Phantom, PB secured 24 points with 7-of-15 shooting from the field. That was enough to grab the first-ever 69–62 franchise win for Breeze. While her 24-point performance was dominant, Bueckers' main goal in the league is development.

This offseason, PB entered the 3-by-3 league not just for experience but also to learn new skills.

“I want to work on my left hand… get to the free-throw line more, so lowkey a little foul bait, but also the Shai shoulder bump.”

This can make her midrange game even tougher to defend, especially when she’s already shooting 44.6% from inside the arc while making 2.5 midrange shots per game.
