After redefining efficiency for the Dallas Wings last season, Paige Bueckers continues the trend in her sophomore year that made her the WNBA's standout rookie.
With the first two games of the season in the books, Bueckers boasts an impressive stat line. She has averaged 17.5 points on 67.4% true shooting, 3.5 assists, and a 7.0 assists-to-turnover ratio against Caitlin Clark's Indiana Fever and Angel Reese's Atlanta Dream.
For people who have been watching Bueckers' rise at the UConn Huskies under HC Geno Auriemma, this does not come as any surprise.
The 2025 WNBA Rookie of the Year averaged 19.2 points, 5.4 assists, and 3.9 boards in her first season in the W, tied for the seventh-highest scoring average ever by a rookie.
The 24-year-old has maintained that momentum at the start of her sophomore season. In the season-opening victory against the Indiana Fever, Bueckers scored 20 points, four assists, and three rebounds while shooting 8-of-10 from the field and 33% from beyond the arc. In contrast, Caitlin Clark also scored 20 points but was way less efficient, going 7-of-18 from the field.
Bueckers added 15 more points to that impressive box score when facing the Atlanta Dream. While her overall field-goal shooting slipped to 5-of-12, she shot 50% from three-point range and converted all three of her free throws.
With two strong performances already under her belt, Paige Bueckers is likely to improve her statistical averages this season.
The 24-year-old is not only the face of Dallas, but also one of the major figures in the WNBA today. With help from Indiana Fever's Caitlin Clark, the two made viewership history on May 9 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
Paige Bueckers and Caitlin Clark draw millions of viewers in season opener
The best the WNBA has to offer was highlighted on Saturday afternoon when the Indiana Fever hosted the Dallas Wings. The battle included four WNBA No. 1 overall picks in Aliyah Boston, Caitlin Clark, Paige Bueckers, and Azzi Fudd.
Dallas’ 107-104 road win over Indiana became the second-most-watched regular-season game across all ESPN networks, with ABC reportedly averaging 2.5 million viewers.
And fans got their time's worth of action, as it was the first time in WNBA that both teams scored over 100 points. This game only trails one other in viewership, which also involves Caitlin Clark, when she took on Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky early last season, drawing 2.7 million viewers on average.
With the WNBA tipping off its 30th milestone season this year, there are more chances of record viewerships after the league signed an 11-year deal with broadcast networks worth over $3.1 million.
With a newly revamped Dallas Wings under HC Jose Fernandez and Bueckers playing her best basketball, the Dallas franchise is expected to be one of the viewership leaders this season.
So, do you think a game involving Paige Bueckers can break the current viewership record?
