Paige Bueckers just got $50,000 richer. The Dallas Wings guard won the inaugural Unrivaled free-throw challenge Monday with a perfect shooting performance, following Breeze BC’s 83–64 win over Mist BC.
When asked about her plans with the prize, Bueckers kept it light. “I got some good plans, but no pocket watching over here. Imma take care of it.”
She admitted later that she knew exactly where she stood in the competition, saying she was “pretty aware” she was leading the entire time.
To qualify for the free throw challenge, a player had to appear in at least three games and attempt a minimum of six free throws.
The one with the highest FT% through the first 5 games of the season. In 5 games played, Bueckers made all free throws attempted, holding a perfect 100 FT% with 13 of 13. It may not be a surprise, considering she had an 88 FT% in her rookie year.
But free throws aren't the only area where Paige Bueckers is shining
She's averaging 23.4 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 6.8 assists per game. The rookie exploded with a 37-point performance, topped with a 14-of-19 shooting, 5-of-8 from deep, and 8 rebounds and 5 assists against Mist.
Her teammates also delivered strong performances. Rookie Dominque Malonga posted a double-double of 16 points, 15 rebounds, and 3 blocks, while Cameron Brink added 18 points and 6 rebounds.
If she keeps this up, Bueckers could become the Unrivaled MVP this season. Let us know what you think in the comments!
