Paige Bueckers Explains How Basketball Played a Role in Her Met Gala Outfit

Amidst the preseason games and the regular season knocking on the door, Dallas Wings PG Paige Bueckers turned the Met Gala into a personal art gallery. The 2025 first overall draft recently elaborated on the significance behind her outfit.

Before the Dallas Wings could make it to the regular season with the 2-0 preseason record, the 24-year-old attended her first Met Gala. Bueckers chose to merge her two worlds rather than keep them separate.

“I love art, obviously, I love fashion,” the Wings’ star stated about her outfit. “I feel like, also, for me, basketball is an art. So, I feel like it’s just all of my worlds collabing and colliding. And for this piece specifically, I really enjoyed how they put it together.”

The WNBA star showed up in a custom 3-piece suit, designed by Coach’s Creative Director Stuart Vevers, and styled by Jason Golden.

The hand-applied paint splatters on the black wool and satin tuxedo matched perfectly the 'Fashion Is Art' theme. The Swarovski crystals and the number five on one sleeve shone as a reminder of her identity as a player.

However, other than the statement outfit, the Gala also brought out a different side of Bueckers’ personality.

Paige Bueckers’ Approach to the Met Gala

Surprisingly, the usually silly and always grinning Bueckers didn’t flash more than a subtle smile while posing for the cameras.

The Wings' Guard quickly explained the reason behind her serious look.

“Don’t smile, whatever you do, do not smile,” Bueckers explained her strategy.

“Do not crack and just look fierce, just like, confident… Got a lot of tips from our stylist, Jason Golden. He has been here; he’s a veteran at this.”

So, the no-smile looks, the poses, where to pose, and how to be - Bueckers had everything from the pros of the fashion league. But in two days, when the season tips off, the Wings’ Guard will be in charge again.
