The Dallas Wings' ambitious offseason has hit a significant $48.6 million roadblock. Their state-of-the-art training facility is now facing a significant delay, complicating their plans to build around Paige Bueckers.

Originally set to open three months from now (roughly Spring of 2026), the facility was supposed to relocate the team to Dallas. Instead, it is running on a one-year delay from the opening date.

Wings' CEO Greg Bibb expressed his disappointment with the delay in an interview with the Dallas Morning News. “Obviously, I’m disappointed that we’re not getting ready to move into two facilities that we thought we were going to be moving into when we signed the agreement. But I do believe in the city and its leadership”, he said as per Dallas Morning News.

The Far West Oak Cliff facility is a 70,700-square-foot complex with state-of-the-art amenities. It is planned to have two full courts, locker rooms, and performance spaces for the Dallas Wings roster players. The delay also prevents the team from establishing a permanent base in its home city.

“Obviously, it would be easier to sell the vision of the team and attract free agents with the practice facility already in place. But we’ll just have to let free agents know what’s happening and sell playing alongside Paige Bueckers as the main point," said Bibb.

Dallas Wings takes matters into their own hands

Bibb added that the city was juggling other major projects, including the convention center. So, as per the Dallas Morning News, Dallas City Manager Kimberly Bizor Tolbert suggested the Wings should take over development.

This decision will raise costs, but that is a risk the franchise is willing to take for more control over the execution of the project. It worked for the Las Vegas Aces in 2023, helping them become one of the league’s most powerful teams.

The Wings are ambitious in their growth plans with the reigning Rookie of the Year on the team. But for now, the new practice facility will take longer than planned.
