While most WNBA stars are busy enjoying the holidays, Paige Bueckers is at the center of a social media debate.

It all started when Drake shared a Christmas Day Instagram post that included a photo of Bueckers. The image was taken during a recent Unrivaled media event with the Dallas Wings and was harmless. Even Bueckers acknowledged it by liking the post.

But that one share was enough to quickly revive talk of the so-called Drake curse.

He famously backed the Kansas City Chiefs before they were blown out by the Eagles in the 2025 Super Bowl. He even supported Jake Paul during the Anthony Joshua fight, but Paul was knocked out.

Following that incident, Joshua even leaned into the narrative, joking to ESPN as he said, “You know about the Drake curse? It’s real.”

As amusing as it sounds, publicly tracked data suggests Drake’s history is far more balanced than the meme implies. More importantly, he didn’t outright support Bueckers or her team, so there is no real connection between the two. Still, fans are asking if Bueckers will be the curse's next victim

Paige Bueckers is currently playing in Miami.

Bueckers got her first break from basketball in nearly a year when the WNBA season ended on September 11. But she couldn’t keep herself away from the game for long. Within just a few months, she was back on the court preparing for her debut in Unrivaled.

She opted not to play overseas during the offseason, but she has long been invested in Unrivaled, the 3-on-3 league co-founded by Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier.

She was named captain of Breeze BC, one of the two new teams introduced for 2026. Her squad is by far the least veteran team in the league, with six players having less than three years of WNBA experience.
