'Only her and Caitlin Clark': Fans Stunned as Hannah Hidalgo Makes NCAA Tournament History

Hannah Hidalgo played a pivotal role in Notre Dame’s 67–64 win over the higher-seeded Commodores, but it took her only the first quarter of the game to achieve a stat that placed her in the league of Caitlin Clark.
Hidalgo was confident about a victory, as she revealed, "I was telling the girls, ‘This is not our last game playing together'" after the game. She also made a significant impact with 31 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 steals, along with the assist on the go-ahead bucket in the final minute.
However, an X update from SportsCenter revealed that the Notre Dame No. 10 became the second women’s player, after Caitlin Clark, to record a 30-point triple-double in NCAA Tournament history.
But while she made big plays throughout and chased the steals record, the biggest moment didn’t come from the stat sheet. It came in transition.
She split two defenders, soared to make the catch, landed, and immediately found her teammate alone at the rim. That assist became one of the defining highlights of the night.
And make no mistake, Notre Dame’s 67–64 win over the higher-seeded Commodores may look comfortable on paper, but it wasn’t.
Fans Give Hannah Hidalgo Her Flowers for Her Remarkable Feat
After watching Hidalgo’s stellar performance and learning about her impressive Caitlin Clark-like feat, lots of fans took to the comments section of SportsCenter's X update to express their opinions.
“You might say she’s the best player in the country?” one user wrote. Another one lauded her, saying, “Only her and Caitlin Clark… that’s elite company.” The Fighting Irish superstar needed just four steals to break the record, and she got them in the first quarter itself.
“The triple-double is fantastic, but seriously—10 steals is amazing!” another user posted.
She’s the second player to record at least eight steals in multiple NCAA Tournament games. And this performance only added to that legacy.
“Wow, all that vs. a No. 2 seed? That’s pretty good!” another fan noted.
Now, the Fighting Irish moves on to face either UConn or NC State Wolfpack in the Fort Worth Regional 1 Final. But do you think she will be able to put up another stellar performance like the last one?
