Sophie Cunningham defended Caitlin Clark like a black belt in an action movie.
Saturday’s Tennessee-Louisville game was just as intense. Elbows flew, and tempers flared, and all that in front of 10,107 fans.
As Kim Caldwell revealed, “We don’t have a lot of time to sit on this one.” Things heated up fast. Talaysia Cooper hit a three to tie it at 10, and it looked like the game might settle. Instead, every possession brought a shove, a bump, or a stare-down.
Louisville kept hitting shots, Tennessee got rattled, and the refs had to step in again and again.
By halftime, Tennessee was only down four, but the frustration was clear. They couldn’t keep up with Louisville’s pace or get clean looks. The Lady Vols shot in the low 30s, while Louisville hovered around 50%. Caldwell summed it up perfectly: “This is a terrible result.” The chaos on the floor made that obvious.
The third quarter was the turning point. Louisville’s defense shut Tennessee down, and shots just wouldn’t fall. The Lady Vols hit only 24% from three.
Zee Spearman shined with 18 points and 12 rebounds, earning her first double-double of the season, but it wasn’t enough. Tennessee’s bench added just 14 points, while Louisville’s three reserves combined for 37. By the fourth, the game ended, tempers flared, and Louisville secured a comfortable 89–65 win.
Lady Vols Women Vs Southern Indiana
“We have one more game before Christmas, so it’s a quick turnaround,” Lady Vols coach Kim Caldwell said. Tennessee is back home at 7-3, with a 98% chance to win. Talaysia Cooper and Janiah Barker will lead the charge.
Southern Indiana is 8-2 but 2-1 on the road. The Screaming Eagles will need big games from Loden and her teammates to challenge Tennessee and slow down the Lady Vols.
Tennessee leads in scoring, rebounds, and assists. Southern Indiana must shoot well and play tight defense to stay competitive. Tip-off is Monday at 6:30 p.m. ET.
