Coming off an 89–49 blowout win over Jacksonville, TCU was expected to follow up with another. And the No. 9 Horned Frogs did exactly that. They closed out the non-conference portion of its home schedule with a convincing win over Arkansas–Pine Bluff at Schollmaier Arena. Yet, the night belonged to just Olivia Miles!
That’s because she recorded her third consecutive triple-double. She had a season-high 25 points, 10 rebounds, and 11 assists in today’s game. Her efforts were enough to add another historic entry to her résumé.
She is now the active career leader with nine triple-doubles and just the third player in NCAA Division I women’s basketball history to record three straight triple-doubles. She’s tied for third all-time in NCAA DI women’s basketball career triple-doubles, placing her among the most accomplished all-around players the sport has ever seen.
She’s also the first player to do so since Chastadie Barrs of Lamar in January 2019. And when you look at her scores from the previous two outings, you know she deserves the spotlight. Against Jacksonville, she tallied 15 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists in just 31 minutes. Two games earlier, she posted 15 points, 10 rebounds, and 11 assists against UTEP in 32 minutes of action.
And, she’s not done yet. She is just 10 rebounds away from reaching 700 for her career. When she does, she will become only the ninth player in Division I history to record at least 1,500 points, 700 rebounds, and 700 assists.
She now has 95 assists on the year, the second-most by any Division I player, and ranks third nationally in assists per game at 7.9. Undoubtedly, having a player like Miles makes all the difference. That is why the Horned Frogs sit at a perfect 12–0 after adding graduate transfers Olivia Miles and Marta Suarez.
And no win proves it better than the one against Arkansas–Pine Bluff. It came as Miles assisted on the first two baskets just 41 seconds into the game. That sparked a 19–3 start, and then there was no slowing down until a win was snatched. This marks TCU’s home winning streak at 33 games. Also, it moves the program ahead and within two wins of tying the longest streak in school history. But, does the credit for the big win go to Miles alone?? Not really!
Introducing TCU’s Invincible Trio
The win was powered by the trio of Miles, Saurez, and Donovyn Hunter. All three have scored in double figures in nine of TCU’s 12 wins. Even for the recent game, they combined for 63 points, the most by any group this season.
To start with, Hunter finished with 18 points, her third-highest total of the season. She leads the team with 29 made three-pointers. That is already higher than the total from all of last season.
Even Suarez was just as impactful. She scored 20 points for the 11th time in her career and the fifth time this season. She is also one of only two Division I players of her height to record a triple-double this season. That triple-double marked just the 75th in Division I history by a player standing 6-foot-3 or taller.
But the trio got immense support from the remaining roster, too. So TCU is rolling. But tougher tests are ahead. The Horned Frogs open Big 12 play against Kansas State before facing the Lady Lions in their next matchup. Can they keep up the undefeated streak?
