Olivia Miles Makes Lynx History After Explosive Start to Rookie Season

For a rookie, Olivia Miles is putting up video game numbers as her start to life in the WNBA has been nothing short of exemplary. And it took her just five games with the Minnesota Lynx to make history with her offensive prowess.

According to ESPN Insights, the No.2 overall pick has scored in double figures in the last five games for the Lynx. It is the longest streak by a Lynx rookie since legendary player Seimone Augustus in 2006.

In the Lynx's 3-2 start to the new season, Miles is averaging  15.5 points per game, 5.8 assists, 4.3 rebounds, 1.5 steals, and 1 block on 47% from the field and 94.1% from the free-throw line.

In the Lynx's latest game on Thursday against expansion side Toronto Tempo, Miles did her job again as one of the team's most consistent scorers.

The rookie logged 23 minutes, where she deftly ran the offense alongside Maya Caldwell and Courtney Williams with 14 points, 5 assists, and 4 rebounds.

The Lynx won with a dominant scoreline of 100-72 at home and most importantly committed just 14 fouls after averaging 23 a game coming into the night.

Miles spoke about it postgame and revealed that the team did not want to disappoint head coach Cheryl Reeve by being sloppy.

“Cheryl hates that. We’re definitely working on that,” Miles said with a chuckle.

Miles has been the perfect rookie for Reeve, as she instantly became one of the offensive leaders of the group during star player Napheesa Collier's absence due to an ankle injury.

However, Miles was a bona fide star herself in her days as a TCU Horned Frogs player. She's had to reorient herself now as a professional, paying her dues as a rookie while still finding a way to be productive in Minnesota's lineup.

The No.2 overall spoke about this transition in her career to none other than Seattle Storm legend Sue Bird.

Olivia Miles Reveals She Does Not Know How to Be a Rookie

In one of the recent episodes of Sue Bird's podcast, Bird's Eye View, the former TCU guard spoke about the transition to her rookie experience and how she sometimes feels she is walking on eggshells.

“I would just say being a rookie. Like I don't know how to be a rookie. Like it's just weird. There's like different things. Like I'm like, can I shoot at this basket? Is that going to take it from me? Can I sit here right now? Do I have to get up there? Like just like stuff like that where I'm kind of navigating, just trying to be respectful, obviously." Miles said.

However, thanks to the veterans of the Lynx team, Miles has been able to understand the social cues of the team better.

"We have great vets on our team who are amazing. But just trying to be respectful and learn like the social codes around here has been interesting…” she added.

Miles joined Bird on her podcast after becoming only the third player in the 30-year history of the WNBA to record at least 10 points and five assists in each of her first three career games.

Sue Bird and Candace Parker are the only two players other than Miles to have achieved this feat.

With a start like Miles, the Lynx are well on their way to compete for the WNBA title after falling short in recent years.

So, do you think Olivia Miles will win the Rookie of the Year award? Let us know in the comments.
