Olivia Miles Gets Honest About Tough WNBA Transition After Latest Defeat

In just her first month with the Minnesota Lynx, No. 2 overall draft pick Olivia Miles has openly criticized herself on what she perceives as a challenging welcome to the league.

After the Lynx's latest practice session on May 19, Miles revealed she has never taken losses well since her college days, a stark contrast to her teammates after their latest defeat at home against the Chicago Sky.

“I took the last game pretty hard, I didn’t feel like I played up to my standard at least and I always hate losing, obviously I have to get used to losing more because in college you lose 5-6 times a year, so it’s different, but my teammates are in there laughing, they’re still smiling." Miles said, per reporter Andrew Dukowitz.

"They take it personally but they never let it consume them, and I’m learning a lot from them for sure.” Miles added.

In the Lynx's 79-86 defeat to the Sky, Miles had a decent performance with 13 points on 4-of-10 shooting, 2 assists, 4 steals, and 6 rebounds.

While Miles is beating herself up after the loss, which makes you wonder if she had a horrid start to life in the WNBA, the 23-year-old is running on the opposite spectrum.

No other rookie, including No.1 overall pick Azzi Fudd, has been as productive as Miles this season.

The former TCU Horned Frogs guard is averaging 15.5 points, 4.3 rebounds, a team-high 5.8 assists per game, and she’s leading all rookies in minutes played per game at 31.4.

Moreover, Miles' efforts on the hardwood are already speaking volumes, as she joined a very special group of players after playing just three games in the WNBA.

Olivia Miles Pulls Off Rare WNBA Feat as a Rookie

It would not be wrong to say that Olivia Miles has exceeded expectations with the Lynx, as she is already showing why she was regarded as one of the most talented offensive guards in college history.

Miles has recorded 45 points and 20 assists in her first three games with the Lynx, becoming the first WNBA rookie to do so. But that is not all.

According to ESPN Insights, Miles became only the third player in the 30-year history of the WNBA to record at least 10 points and five assists in each of her first three career games.

For context, she joins only the legendary Sue Bird and Candace Parker on the list, some great company for the rookie.

Over the years, iconic players such as Maya Moore, Seimone Augustus, Sylvia Fowles, and Lindsey Whalen have helped the Minnesota Lynx build their legacy as four-time champions.

And with a start like Miles, she could very well be the next player on the list as HC Cheryl Reeve has strongly backed the 23-year-old as one of the team leaders, following star player Napheesa Collier's rehab from injury.

The Lynx are currently 2-2 without Collier, and it will be up to Olivia Miles again to lessen the team's burden with her offensive prowess. The Lynx host the Toronto Tempo on Friday.

So, do you believe that Olivia Miles is the frontrunner for the Rookie of the Year honor?
