The Dallas Wings are doing everything possible to avoid being in a position like last year, as they once again put free agency to good use by signing a familiar face in Odyssey Sims.

The 2014 No.2 overall pick has agreed to sign a one-year contract with Dallas, per ESPN's Alexa Philippou.

This is not the first, but the fourth time Sims will play in a Dallas jersey in her illustrious 12-year career.

Sims previously featured for the team back in 2016, when the Tulsa Shock relocated to Dallas and rebranded as the Wings.

The franchise re-signed the 33-year-old on a hardship contract seven years later but waived her once the Wings’ main roster returned to full health. The team then brought her back on an end-of-season contract, only to waive her again in a similar pattern the following season.

Sims played last season between the Los Angeles Sparks and the Indiana Fever. She had a solid run with the latter in the playoffs, amidst star player Caitlin Clark's season-ending injury.

Sims averaged 10.1 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 3.8 assists in 28 minutes per game, with splits of 41.4 percent from the field, 35.3 percent from beyond the arc, and 78.2 percent from the free-throw line. She appeared in 24 games and started 21.

With her experience, she helped the Fever reach the playoffs semifinals without the likes of Clark and Cunningham. Fever fans were disappointed to see the productive partnership
come to an end, particularly given the team's playoff run.

Why did the Indiana Fever Skip on Odyssey Sims after Playoff Run?

HC Stephanie White will now have to look elsewhere for a steady backcourt option, as Sims provided with her experience and production during a stretch of critical games last season.

But she won't be finding many, as Indiana is shaping its core around a young roster led by 2024 No. 1 overall pick Caitlin Clark.

The Fever had a busy free agency period. They brought in forward Monique Billings, who already shared history with coach White, Clark, and even Aliyah Boston in Unrivaled. In addition, the signing of Myisha Hines-Allen was also made.

Moreover, Indiana also added several guards to its training camp roster, including Shatori Walker-Kimbrough, Ty Harris, Kayana Taylor, and Megan McConnell.

With these additions came some losses, and unfortunately for the 2019 All-Star, Sims was one of them as she now heads to the Wings to team up with Paige Bueckers and Azzi Fudd.

Sims will see her former team very soon, as the Dallas Wings face the Indiana Fever in the WNBA season opener's final matchup on May 8.
