NY Liberty GM Defends Natasha Cloud As Free Agent Remains Unsigned

It seems Natasha Cloud's 10-year WNBA resume is not enough to land her a team in the upcoming season, although New York Liberty GM Jonathan Kolb has backed his former player's skills.

At his annual preseason conference, Kolb addressed this topic, lauding Cloud's talents and confirming that his relationship with the 34-year-old is excellent.

"When it comes to Tash, she's a phenomenal teammate. She's an awesome human being, she's a phenomenal basketball player, and she belongs in the WNBA. One of the best parts of my job is being able to have relationships with these players, build those relationships, curate those relationships." The Liberty GM said, per an X post from Black Rosie Media.

Cloud still not being able to find a team is a rather big story in recent weeks. The 2019 WNBA champion played an important role with the Liberty last season. She helped them to a franchise-best 9-0 league start.

She averaged 10.1 points, 5.1 assists, and 3.7 rebounds in 41 games. That record was tied for the second most on the team last season.

Throughout last summer, Cloud expressed her love for New York, calling it home. “I’m very happy as a New York Liberty,” the 34-year-old said July 18.

However, her backcourt partnership with Sabrina Ionescu wasn't as effective as the Liberty would have wanted.

The Liberty crashed out in the first round of the playoffs, prompting Kolb to reevaluate the team's strengths and weaknesses.

The final nail in the coffin arrived for Cloud when the Liberty signed Satou Sabally on a two-year deal, leaving all doors shut for the 34-year-old.

Natasha Cloud Sends a Powerful Message on Her Current Situation

Cloud took to Instagram Threads on April 26 to finally speak her mind, to address outside noise and affirm her self-worth.

"I have yet to speak. That’s intentional & my power. I’ve just worked. No sulking, no whining. Work. & I will continue to work as I always have. Proving myself right year after year, after year. (11) to be exact. I know who I am. I know my value/worth. & ain’t nothing traditional." Cloud wrote.

Multiple WNBA specialists believe Cloud will join a team for this season, while team sources believe she will play for a championship contender.

With Cloud's future uncertain, do you think the 34-year-old will be able to find a team before the WNBA season officially kicks off on May 8?
