WNBA analyst Rachel DeMita believes Team USA's rocky moments against Puerto Rico were on full display, despite the blowout win.
"I have to say, tonight's game was very different from the game that we witnessed last night against Team Senegal. And I was even debating, even doing a recap video about this game, because it was not good basketball." DeMita said.
Apart from the inconsistent flow of their game, Team USA's 43-point victory was the first time these players went up against another team, instead of playing against each other in practice. But more importantly, there was one big differentiating factor compared to the Senegal game.
"The biggest thing that I noticed from this USA team tonight was that they weren't moving the ball as well as they did versus Senegal. They weren't sharing the ball as well as they did versus Senegal. It didn't seem like, I don't know, this might be looking into it too much, like the vibes even seemed a little off." The Courtside Club host added.
The biggest example is Angel Reese's lowlight moment, when Imani McGee-Stafford swatted the ball away from her attempted layup.
Puerto Rico was ruthless in their zone defence and did not allow the USA any breathing space. The USA lost all momentum and was unable to transition as freely as they did against Senegal, costing them 14 turnovers.
"I thought the game was a little clunky. We probably didn't play our best." Caitlin Clark also joined this conversation postgame. The Fever star could not carry on her momentum from last game's double-double, scoring only 8 points this time around.
While the host nation played "very, very hard," according to Team USA coach Lawson, they could not overcome Team USA's skill and shooting.
Paige Bueckers was the highlight of the game with 16 points, while Angel Reese stood out as a huge presence as well with 10 points and 13 rebounds, despite her lowlight moment.
Did Caitlin Clark Ignore Angel Reese's Handshake?
Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese are the two biggest WNBA players right now, and their fanbases love a good old rivalry.
A recent clip of Clark and Reese has been moving around social media, suggesting that the Fever star ignored Reese's high five while being subbed into the match against Puerto Rico.
This put the fans of both players in a frenzy. While the clip clearly showed Clark turning her head to the other side before Reese put her hand out for the gesture, some viewed this as a deliberately done move by CC.
While we may never know whether Clark's actions were intentional or not, this moment just adds another highlight to their already storied rivalry since their days back in Iowa and LSU.
