No. 5 LSU Heads Into One of Their Biggest Challenges This Season

After racking up a 14-0 record this season, LSU is heading into a tougher game stretch.
That’s because LSU will be facing many strong teams ahead in SEC play. Eight of their conference games will be against ranked opponents, including four that are in the top 10 of the latest AP rankings. This includes Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Georgia, Texas, and Oklahoma.
But Mulkey is in a far better place for now. That’s because in these games, Mulkey usually shortens her rotation. But this season, the team’s got a deeper and more balanced roster.
During nonconference play, 10 players averaged at least 13 minutes per game. None played more than 25. Seven players averaged double figures in scoring, yet none scored more than 16 points per game. So is LSU ready? Yes, they are if you ask Kim Mulkey.
How would LSU take on tough opponents?
LSU leads the nation in bench scoring, averaging 50 points per game, nearly a dozen more than any other Division I team. That depth fuels the Tigers’ confidence.
As Mikaylah Williams, who averages 25 minutes per game, put it, "Ready to lock in and get to the hard part of the season, get to the postseason, and accomplish all the goals we want to accomplish.”
The numbers back it up. LSU is posting the best per-possession offense and defense of the Mulkey era. They lead the nation in points scored per 100 possessions and points allowed per 100 possessions.
Also, no Division I team scores more, shoots better, or rebounds more missed shots than LSU.
