New York Liberty Unveil Court Origins Uniform Marking WNBA Anniversary

Apart from the 'Big 3' returning and the addition of the "Unicorn" in Satou Sabally, the New York Liberty fans got one more thing to be excited about for the upcoming WNBA season.

On April 24, the Liberty unveiled the design for its Nike WNBA “Court Origins” Edition uniform, a tribute to the franchise's original 1997 look. The throwback uniform celebrates 30 years of one of the league's very first franchises.

“The Liberty’s ‘Court Origins’ Edition is a tribute to the moments and people that built this franchise and a reflection of the momentum that continues to drive us forward,” Chief Executive Officer of the Liberty Keia Clarke said in a statement.

Keeping up with the exclusivity, the Liberty will wear this special "Court Origins" uniform only on a select few important games in the upcoming season, and the schedule is already out. It starts from their first game on May 8 at the Barclays Center.

Following this, we will see the uniforms on the hardwood during key games and theme nights throughout the season, including May 25 vs. Portland, May 27 and May 29 vs. Phoenix (Pride Night), June 19 vs. Washington (Juneteenth/Unity), August 9 vs. Las Vegas (Legends Weekend), August 13 vs. Los Angeles (Sneakerhead Night), and September 23 vs. Atlanta (Fan Appreciation Night).

With the addition of this vintage jersey, the Liberty fans are even more excited for the upcoming season as they aspire their team to win the title after an unexpected crash out in the playoffs last season following Breanna Stewart's injury.

But the Liberty is not the only team to have received special uniforms for next season.

The Los Angeles Sparks and Phoenix Mercury Also Receive Vintage Uniforms

The Sparks and Mercury, alongside the Liberty, complete the three original WNBA franchises remaining from the league's inaugural year in 1997.

Phoenix's jersey will feature a watermelon base, yellow shoulder straps, and a purple trim. “Mercury” is written out in white across the chest with the script the franchise used for 28 years.

In addition, a patch on the back neckline includes the number “3” and a silver trophy to celebrate Phoenix’s three WNBA championships.

Like the Liberty and Mercury, the Sparks also draw inspiration for their design from their original 1997 jersey, using the same colors and typography aesthetics.

All three "Court Origin" jerseys from Nike will drop on May 21 for fans to purchase.
