Heading into the 2026 WNBA season, Natasha Cloud remains unsigned, and the free agent posted a message on Threads on Sunday addressing her situation directly.

The 34-year-old guard offered a candid look at where she stands as the league's opening week arrives without her name on any roster.

"I've given my heart to every team and community I've been part of, never fully knowing if the impact I hoped for was truly felt," Natasha Cloud wrote. "In this moment, though, receiving so much love, support, and advocacy means everything. It's a powerful reminder that the impact I've wanted to make beyond the court is real — and aligned with what I believe God has called me to do through this game.”

“I'm okay. Just taking things in; even if they weren't what I expected, and trusting I'll be alright," Cloud added.

The message struck a tone of acceptance rather than frustration, which makes it all the more notable given the circumstances, as Natasha Cloud is a three-time All-Defensive Team selection and a 2019 WNBA champion heading into her 11th season.

Furthermore, she has averaged 8.8 points, 5.3 assists, and 3.3 rebounds, with her assist average ranking seventh all-time across 327 career games. Cloud, in her most recent season with the New York Liberty, posted 10.1 points and 5.1 assists per game.

Having said that, Cloud's situation could be a direct result of a financial restriction in the league.

The WNBA expanded this offseason with the addition of the Toronto Tempo and Portland Fire, which created more roster spots. However, it did not produce a contract for Cloud, with podcaster Mick Talks Hoops asserting the salary cap structure as a central factor.

Contending teams carrying veteran cores have little room to absorb additional contracts, and the Liberty, Natasha Cloud's most recent employer, has its cap heavily committed to Sabrina Ionescu, Breanna Stewart, and Jonquel Jones.

The expansion teams, for their parts, have taken a longer-term approach to roster construction rather than investing in veteran free agents at full market value.

At 5'10 with the ability to guard multiple positions and run a primary offense, Natasha Cloud profiles as a mid-season addition candidate if a team absorbs an injury or needs a playmaking upgrade in the rotation. For now, she waits.
