Napheesa Collier Credits Cheryl Reeve for Team-Building and Culture at Minnesota Lynx

Napheesa Collier signed a record-breaking supermax contract to remain with the Minnesota Lynx. The superstar forward immediately credited head coach Cheryl Reeve for building the championship culture.

In a clip shared by Andrew Dukowitz on April 17, Collier credited Reeve's abilities as a GM and the confidence she has instilled in her during her recent media availability.

“I think Cheryl has proven herself for years in this league in her abilities as a GM. Her abilities to put teams together and the chemistry that is able to be built with that."

"So I think she has a unique ability is finding that great balance of great players and great people, which is why the Lynx culture has been what it has been for the past how many years,” Collier added.

Collier became just the third player in the WNBA to receive a supermax contract worth $1.4 million, thanks to the latest CBA that she helped orchestrate in the WNBPA's favour as the vice president.

The 29-year-old will now remain at Minnesota for her eighth year in the WNBA.

"Phee has been such an integral part of the Lynx since she was drafted in 2019. Coming off a historic 50/40/90 season and guiding the Lynx to the most wins in franchise history, Phee is hungry to position the Lynx for a championship run in 2026." Reeve said.

The Lynx cored Collier before the agreement, basically the franchise tag equivalent in the NFL.

But she will become an unrestricted free agent next season, meaning the Lynx would not be able to use this feature on her again.

Collier's supermax deal comes after A'ja Wilson signed a three-year $5 million contract with the Las Vegas Aces, a record almost instantly broken by Aliyah Boston's four-year $6.3 million signing with the Indiana Fever on Friday night.

Securing Collier for another year was a priority for Minnesota. The 29-year-old averaged 22.9 points and 7.3 rebounds per game last season. She has also finished runner-up to Wilson in the last two MVP voting.

Collier is currently in the process of returning to the hardwood, three months after undergoing surgery on both ankles.

Napheesa Collier Plans to Return to the Court "Soon"

Just a day after her supermax deal, Collier arrived at the practice facility, still on crutches with a boot on her ankle as she recovers from her ankle surgery.

"Right now, I'm just working as fast as I can with my doctors and my physical therapy staff, just trying to get back on the court," Collier said. "But everything is going well, so you'll see me soon."

While the former DPOY is still beneficial to the team through her leadership, the Lynx would require Collier's on-court talents as soon as possible for any hope of a title-winning season.

In the meantime, they acquired TCU's Olivia Miles with the second pick of the WNBA Draft. Miles is a talented guard who can maintain the team's momentum.
