‘Money Looks Better,’ Fans React as Jackie Young Lands $1.19M Deal in LV Aces Core Move

In a historic move during the ongoing WNBA free agency, 28-year-old Jackie Young has returned to the Las Vegas Aces in a deal expected to be the first of many, and fans had a lot to say about her comeback to the Aces camp.

Young has agreed to sign a one-year contract worth $1.19 million to continue with the Aces. She became the first player in WNBA history to secure a deal over the seven-figure margin, much to the credit of the latest CBA agreement.

ESPN's Alexa Philippou relayed the news on March 9 with an X update. It read, "One of the best two-way players in the league, Young was expected to be a coveted free agent this offseason. I am told she did not end up taking any meetings with other teams, a huge win for Vegas."

Young has spent her entire career in Las Vegas since the Aces selected her as the No. 1 overall pick in 2019, shortly after she won a national championship with Notre Dame.

A four-time All-Star and two-time All-WNBA selection, she played a key role in the Aces’ three championships over four seasons, including the 2025 title.

But that is not all, the guard also possesses two Olympic gold medals in her trophy cabinet, winning one with the U.S. 3x3 team in Tokyo and another with the 5-on-5 team in Paris.

Young averaged 16.5 points, 5.1 assists, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.3 steals per game last season.

The deal follows the conclusion of a 16-month negotiation between the WNBA and the WNBPA over the new CBA, which has led to a significant rise in player salaries, including supermax contracts valued at $1.4 million.

The Aces have locked in their core group, featuring four-time MVP A’ja Wilson and six-time All-Star Chelsea Gray, who both want to return alongside Young.

While both Las Vegas and Young will be happy to secure the deal, let's take a look at what fans think of this monumental contract.

Fans React to Las Vegas' Historic Deal with Jackie Young

"The money looks better for real." One fan was impressed by the sizeable increase in Young's contract after the latest CBA agreement.

"All the noise people were making about her leaving, SMH," another fan said, implying Young's departure was never an option, and social media unnecessarily created noise. "I was told by reliable sources on this that she was about to be traded," another user commented sarcastically.

One fan believed the Aces would re-sign the 28-year-old in due time. He mentioned, "I knew they wouldn't leave Jackie hanging."

"While I’m happy to hear this, why only 1 year?!?" A user was unhappy with Young's contract not being multi-year.

So, after learning about all this, what are your thoughts on Jackie Young securing the league's first-ever seven-figure contract?
