Michelle Obama Applauds Angel Reese for Conduct on and off the Court

Angel Reese's transfer to the Atlanta Dream might just not be the biggest news around her this offseason, as she has now collaborated with a former First Lady, who also sang her praises.
Reese recently shared the platform of the IMO podcast with the former First Lady, Michelle Obama. IMO's official Instagram account posted the news, stating that they will release the full episode on April 22. They also posted a short clip of Michelle praising Reese in an appreciative message.
“You are handling yourself beautifully,” Obama said. “I mean, it’s not just what you do, but the way you carry yourself. Girl, I mean, it is really a joy to watch you manage it all, and you do it with a smile on your face with an excellent attitude.” Reese replied, “Thank you, so I am just honored to be coming from you. The Queen, the Queen, the Queen.”
Angel Reese's appearance in such a high-profile podcast that included a former First Lady just adds to her influence and the impact she has created ever since debuting in the WNBA.
The WNBA has seen a surge in popularity over the last five years, driven largely by Caitlin Clark’s rookie season following her iconic collegiate career with the Iowa Hawkeyes women's basketball.
But every top athlete needs an adversary, and for CC, it became Angel Reese. The two have been facing off against each other ever since their college days, when Reese's LSU defeated Clark's Iowa in the 2023 NCAA championship.
Surprisingly, Michelle Obama herself has also weighed in on this rivalry before.
Michelle Obama Addresses the Caitlin Clark-Angel Reese Rivalry
During an appearance on the podcast All the Smoke with Matt Barnes & Stephen Jackson on April 14, 2025, Michelle Obama spoke in a group discussion, highlighting how the Clark–Reese drama has impacted the WNBA’s popularity and whether any “hate” factor exists between the two.
“I think the tough thing is the social media element to it. But that’s true across the board. These young kids today, what they have to go through, what they have to be able to withstand, because social media is such a huge part of the world,” Obama said.
“There’s the hate. But now the hate is in your room, on your phone, with you all the time. And you can’t, for whatever reason, tell these kids to turn it off, because they’re making their living that way... so, I think that makes it feel even worse." She added.
While the presence of social media has definitely added extra and irrelevant buzz around the Clark-Reese rivalry, the two, in reality, have shown signs of gelling well.
The most recent example came during the FIBA World Cup qualifiers in March, where Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark backed each other on referee calls.
While the Clark-Reese rivalry will naturally always create buzz online, there is no denying that the WNBA is better with them than without.
So, do you agree with Michelle Obama's comments or have a different opinion regarding Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark's already iconic rivalry?
