The basketball paint and tennis court are set to lock horns this summer with the crossover that no one saw coming.

The NBA legend’s expertise on the golf course is mostly known. But his 7th AJ is getting a revival in 2026, drawing inspiration from tennis.

The AJ-7 was originally linked to Jordan’s 1992 championship run. But the “Tennis Day” version took direct inspiration from tennis legend Andre Agassi’s Nike Air Tech Challenge 2, which epitomised the tennis culture in 1990.

The full details of the design and colorway are not disclosed yet, but the speculative mock-ups suggest similarities with Agassi’s fluorescent aesthetics and vibrant hues.

As per early reports, it’ll have a mix of Phantom, Lemon Twist, Pink Blast, and Anthracite. There will be “paint splatter” graphics on the midsole. Which is again similar to the “Hot Lava” colorway of Agassi’s PE. And there is one more similarity. The legendary Nike designer Tinker Hatfield designed both of these shoes.

The release date may sound like a coincidence, but it’s not. It’s perfectly timed with the US Open’s quarterfinal day, which is expected to be September 9.

While this crossover will certainly set sell-out records, this is not the first time Air Jordan crossed the tennis court.

Nike’s Zoom Vapor Tour AJ3

This iconic blend of Roger Federer’s PE Zoom Vapor 9.5 Tour and Michael Jordan’s AJ3 marked the first-ever basketball-tennis crossover. The Zoom Vapor Tour AJ3 was first released in 2014 with the "White/Cement" and "Black/Cement" colorways.

Later on, there was a Tokyo exclusive release on October 5, 2017. Which was a crossover with Atmos. The Atmos x Nike Zoom Vapor Tour AJ3came with a Black/White-Clear Jade colorway. It had a global release on November 17, 2017.

The most recent was the Racer Blue edition, which came out in 2023. However, this was the first pair to come without the RF logo. Because Federer left his Nike affiliation in 2018, after a 24-year-long partnership.

Anyway, the retail price for the “Tennis Day” edition will be $215 in Nike’s SNKRS app and at the selected Jordan Brand retailers. The style code for the new release is IV6508-030.
