Madison Keys' tennis journey has always been layered with promise and perseverance.

Last January, the journey reached a peak when the 30-year-old American captured her first Grand Slam title in Melbourne. She won the 2025 Australian Open final 6-3, 2-6, 7-5 against Aryna Sabalenka, the two-time defending champ.

With the win, Keys not only lifted her maiden major trophy but also joined an elite club with the rare milestone, her 100th career Grand Slam singles match victory.

The “100-Slam group” includes players who have recorded 100 or more Grand Slam singles match victories across their careers. The list features icons such as Serena Williams (23 titles), Rafael Nadal (22), Roger Federer (20), Pete Sampras (14), Andre Agassi (8), John McEnroe (7), and Maria Sharapova (5).

Madison Keys is the most recent member with one Grand Slam title. As of 2026, the 5’10” American sits at world No. 9 in the singles rankings. She achieved a highest singles rank of No. 5 on February 24, 2025. With 10 WTA singles titles, including one Grand Slam, Keys has an overall win-loss record of 424–236.

The defending champion made it to the fourth round of the happy slam without dropping a single set. That was until she met fellow American Jessica Pegula in round 4. Keys’ title hopes were broken with a 3-6, 4-6 loss to her podcast partner.

“I’d say it feels way better losing and still being the defending champion,” Keys said. “It’s not like the world is ending because I lost today”, she said in the post-game conference.

She added, “When we play 11 months out of the year… you can’t maintain the roller-coaster of the highs of winning and the lows of being devastated every single week.”

Though Keys' Australian Open run has come to an end, she said she would be cheering her on. Yet with a 100-Slam status achieved, Madison Keys will drop in the rankings to No. 15 after the exit.

But she still has plenty to cherish.
