Lindsey Vonn's 2026 Winter Olympics ended in dismay after the terrible crash, but the 41-year-old has returned to a stable condition.

The American Alpine ski racer entered the race with a seriously injured knee from a week-old accident. However, she suffered an even more gruesome injury this time that required swift hospitalization.

Vonn's first injury came on January 30, right before the Winter Games. She tore her left knee’s ACL after a high-speed crash into the safety net. But the new one got her on the surgeon’s table. A few hours following her crash, the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Team announced that she suffered a "broken leg," and was in a stable condition after surgery.

On February 8, Vonn was just 13 seconds in her Olympic race. But then her right arm clipped the gate during a turn, twisting her body in the air before crashing hard on the slope. The next 20 minutes, she spent there, surrounded by a medical team, before being airlifted.

Ca' Foncello Hospital provided a more detailed report about Vonn's injury, stating that the three-time Olympian received treatment from a “multidisciplinary team,” and then “underwent an orthopaedic operation to stabilize a fracture in her left leg”.

Vonn's ACL tear occurred during a tune-up race in Switzerland just over a week ago. While many have claimed her Olympic crash had nothing to do with it, one specialist over X commented otherwise.

“When you understand the biomechanics and physics of the body and subsequent injuries that change those, then you can say confidently, without a doubt, that Lindsey Vonn’s left ACL tear played a role in today’s crash”, wrote M.D Jesse Morse.

But heading towards Olympic with an ACL tear takes the kind of guts that Vonn has. Considering her previous injury reports, this was a calculated risk she took.

Lindsey Vonn’s Past Injuries

In 2007, Vonn sustained a season-ending ACL sprain. Then in 2013, a torn ACL, MCL and fractured tibial plateau. In the same year, she re-tore her ACL, followed by an MCL sprain in her right knee. An LCL and three tibial plateau fractures in her left leg followed in 2018.

And there were more than ACL, MCL, and LCL. And with these many injuries, most would consider calling it quits. But Vonn was adamant about not letting her Olympic dream end. After her recent ACL tear, Vonn took it to the socials and wrote she’ll make a comeback.

Which she did, but things don’t always go as planned. However, today’s incident did not stop her from keeping the spirit high. As per People’s X post, “Lindsey Vonn Was Cheering for Teammate Breezy Johnson 'from the Helicopter' as She Was Airlifted After Her Crash”.

What Vonn is doing at 41, after so many injuries, remains iconic. And now time will tell what her next comeback will look like. What do you think about it? Let us know in the comments section.
